Basketweave, while a traditional weave used in Laotian textiles for ages this weaver at Phaeng Mai Gallery in Vientiane, Laos has transformed the pattern by manipulation of threads, of color, and design. This family of weavers settled in the Laotian capital after their father was killed during the Vietnam era wars. Viengkham and Kong Thong sisters who founded a weaving studio are from a long line of textile artists proficient in natural dyeing, silk cultivation, traditional vertical heddle loom weaving and design. Their work honors their Lao traditional work and takes it to a new level of artistry and accomplishment in producing contemporary design pieces. They have won many awards over the years including from ASEAN and Japan.
